Preparing for a Birthday Thanksgiving

So tomorrow is Thanksgiving, that falls on the 22nd of November this year which happens to be AJ’s birthday!!!

Vacation starts tomorrow- we rented a 3 bedroom house boat in a marina not far from the city that were going to be staying at for two nights with some of our good friends.

As I mentioned before, my boyfriend is a chef and Thanksgiving is one of his favorite holidays- he was born on Thanksgiving Day too so the fact that the holiday falls on his bday again makes it a very special year. Last night he showed me how to make a brine for our 19 pound organic turkey. He made the salt/sugar ratio and I cut all the chives, oranges, limes, lemons, rosemary, thyme, and chiles to soak the turkey overnight. This what it looked like before we put the turkey in:

It was quite beautiful. Soooo the menu we’re creating to do on the boat includes:

  • Roasted Turkey
  • Sourdough Stuffing
  • Giblet gravy
  • Fresh cranberry sauce
  • Sweet Potato Casserole
  • Creamed spinach ( Aj said he’s going to make a bechamel sauce- not sure how that is done?)
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Mashed potatoes
  • Radish Salad
  • apple Pie
  • Key Lime Pie
  • and of course I have to make a bday cake which will be a pumpkin spice cake this year!

Sounds like a lot but that’s one of the reasons I wanted to write it all down- so we dont forget anything.

Today I’m going to do the bday cake while AJ isnt around, the cranberry sauce, boil the sweet potatoes, and cut up celery and onions for stuffing. Unfortunately we dont have a 2nd fridge so I can make more ahead of time : ( oh well at least it will all be fresh!

Regarding my current project, I’m kind of a stand still because it is going to be difficullt to combine the 2 projects- one for school and one outside of school together like i previously thought so I am thinking of sticking with the classical music theme with the storyline I have for the other idea… I already have some of the flats created in Illustrator so I also need to spend part of the day on that.

Ok time to get to work, have a great holiday everyone!!!!
